Art & Soul was founded in 1988 by painter, writer, and teacher Arunima Orr. For over three decades, our West Nashville studio has provided a judgment-free environment for community members to engage in visual arts, somatic movement, writing, and sounding classes. Originally established to focus on the personal substance and meaning of creation rather than commercial exhibition, the studio continues to operate as a nonprofit, community-supported organization.

The Studio Environment

When you step through our doors, you enter a richly stimulating, intentional container built to support your unique journey. That journey might last for a single afternoon workshop or unfold over several years of weekly classes.

While your creative exploration is profoundly individual, you never have to navigate it alone. Our facilitators and members hold a collaborative space rooted in freedom, mutual respect, and trust. This allows you to set aside external expectations, drop into your own rhythm, and see what wants to emerge.

Our Roots

Art & Soul was born out of a deep belief that artmaking should focus on the soul-making experience rather than the commercial artifact. Our foundation is built on the pioneering work of our founder, Arunima Orr, who dedicated her life to opening the doors of creative expression to everyone.
