Set your intuitive artist free in this class that begins with authentic movement and moves into self-expressive painting. We will begin by creating a quiet, safe space in which you can listen to your body and allow it to move in whatever way it wants. This grounding, somatic practice develops deep listening on all levels and provides an opportunity for accessing and expressing deeply held sensations and feelings, helping you develop trust in yourself, your body, and the group connection. We will then transition into intuitive art making in a playful state of not-knowing: trying this, trying that, making a mess, not knowing what we are going to do or where we are going. You may have an idea for a “point of departure,” but holding it lightly, you will use the exploration of materials to allow you to drop into your being, trusting that “the hands know what to do” as you pick a color, make a mark, pick another color, make another mark. Before long, you will be in a relationship with your painting, and something will emerge. As we paint, we release what we are holding inside us and set it free. This requires a leap of faith, but it’s all about the process, not the product, and you will be creating in a safe space of non-judgement, discovery, and play.
